Are you suffering from jaw pain? If so, you may have issues associated with TMJ. The acronym stands for temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ/TMD). It is our priority to provide you with ease of pain and make chewing your favorite foods enjoyable again!
Am I a Candidate?
Teeth grinding is one of the first causes leading to TMD. As a result, your teeth’s enamel will shrink making it susceptible to tooth decay.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you may be a candidate for TMJ including:
- Popping sounds
- Difficulty chewing
- “Locked” jaw
- Unable to open or close the mouth
There are a variety of ways to treat TMJ with accuracy and effectiveness. During your initial appointment, your doctor will examine your jaw and mouth to look for any troubling signs that are identified as TMD.
The most common form of TMJ treatment is stabilization splints or mouth guards. These are placed over the top and bottom teeth worn throughout your sleep cycle. An impression of your teeth will be taken in order to create mouthguards custom-fitted to your teeth. You may be provided with medication to alleviate your TMJ disorder over time.
